Biden signed new regulations to strengthen restrictions on Huawei and ZTE's purchase of chips

According to Reuters, on Thursday (November 11) local time, US President Biden signed the latest bill: the secure equipment act of 2021, which will further prevent Huawei, ZTE and other "companies regarded as security threats" from obtaining new equipment licenses from US regulators.
The security equipment act is regarded as the latest measure taken by the US government to crack down on Chinese telecommunications and technology companies. The bill was unanimously passed by the US Senate on October 28. Previously, the US House of representatives also passed it unanimously by 420 votes to 4.
The new Act requires the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) not to review or approve any authorization application for equipment "posing a risk to national security".
The Federal Communications Commission said that it had approved more than 3000 applications from Huawei since 2018. The latest bill will help ensure that the equipment of companies such as Huawei and ZTE can no longer be plugged into U.S. communication networks.
In March this year, the Federal Communications Commission listed five Chinese companies as "threatening national security". The listed companies include Huawei, ZTE, hytera communications, Hikvision and Dahua Technology.
In June, the Federal Communications Commission unanimously voted to approve a plan to prohibit some Chinese company equipment from entering the U.S. telecommunications network. According to the rules on obtaining preliminary approval, the FCC can even revoke the equipment authorization issued to Chinese companies.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian strongly opposed this. He said that "the United States still abuses national security and state power to suppress Chinese enterprises without any evidence". Huawei also called the rule "misleading and unnecessary punishment" in June. In October, the FCC voted to revoke the authorization of China Telecom's U.S. subsidiary to operate in the United States on the grounds of national security.
