TSMC joined hands with MediaTek to launch the first single chip of 8K digital TV flagship system in 7 nm process

It is reported that the pentonic2000 chip produced by TSMC N7 advanced process technology can provide ultra-high performance and excellent power consumption efficiency, and has a number of powerful functions, including high-speed artificial intelligence engine, motion estimation and motion compensation (MEMC), and versatile video coding (VVC) Decoding and child parent picture technology. In addition, MediaTek expects that the next generation flagship 8K TV containing the chip will be launched in the global market in 2022.
According to official data, pentonic2000 launched by MediaTek is the first commercial 8K TV chip supported by h.266 multi-functional video coding and an omni-directional chip integrated with MEMC engine to support 8K 120Hz display, providing indispensable key functions for the era of video streaming. Pentonic2000 combines MediaTek high-performance display technology and artificial intelligence processor to drive its 8K AI ultra-high resolution processing technology and intelligent vision technology supporting multiple child and parent images and multiple images. In addition to the fastest CPU and graphics processor in the TV industry, the ultra wide memory bus and ultra fast ufs3.1 storage further strengthen the function of pentonic2000. At the same time, it also supports the fastest Wi Fi 6e or 5g baseband wireless networking of MediaTek.
Compared with TSMC's 16 nm technology for consumer electronics, N7 technology speed is increased by 30%, power consumption is reduced by 55%, and logic density is increased by more than three times. TSMC N7 process enables powerful edge artificial intelligence of consumer electronic devices to handle multiple tasks, such as intelligent upgrading of high-resolution or 4K resolution content to 8K, and rapid understanding of user voice instructions. In addition to the upgrading of computing efficiency, the energy-saving characteristics of TSMC N7 process further provide cooling advantages for the design of consumer electronic products. As the first semiconductor manufacturer to introduce 7 nanotechnology into commercial mass production, TSMC has an excellent record in yield and quality improvement, and also has the largest design ecosystem support.
